FAQ
  • What is Physical Therapy?

    • Physical therapy or physiotherapy (often abbreviated to PT) is a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialty that remediates impairments and promotes mobility, function, and quality of life through examination, diagnosis, prognosis, and physical intervention (therapy using mechanical force and movements). At Major Changes Rehab Centre, you will be evaluated by a Physical Therapist who will discuss your symptoms, daily activity and will create a Care Plan specifically for you.

  • Why Physical Therapy?

    • Physical Therapists (PTs) have three or more years of postgraduate training in their specialization.

    • PT evaluations and treatments are covered by most insurance carriers.

    • Most people do not realize that PTs are the best resource for non-surgical, musculoskeletal issues.

    • You can see a PT for a number of wellness-related issues (e.g. balance, ergonomics, posture, strength imbalance, movement analysis and retraining).

    • Only licensed PTs can practice Physical Therapy.

  • When can Physical Therapy help?

    • Physical Therapy can help you recover from an injury or avoid future injury.

    • Chronic conditions such as spinal stenosis, Parkinson’s disease or arthritis to name a few, can be treated through Physical Therapy and can provide a better quality of life for persons with those conditions.

    • Physical Therapists work as a part of a Care Team, functioning closely alongside of doctors, nurses, other therapists, psychologists and more. The team approach provides better long term results for the patient. The team approach is especially applicable for conditions such as stroke, major cardiopulmonary (heart and lung) conditions and spinal injuries.

    • Physical Therapy also helps children with conditions such as cerebral palsy, congenital abnormalities, major injuries and other health conditions by focusing on range of motion, strength, endurance and mobility.

  • When my doctor recommends therapy, do I have a choice in providers?

    • Yes, you do have a choice. We encourage you to explore your options, and when you do, we are confident that Major Changes Rehab Centre will exceed your expectations.

  • How long will my physical therapy appointment be?

    • Appointments for Physical Therapy vary in length depending on your diagnosis(es) and activity level. Typical appointments are approximately one (1) hour in length.

  • How frequently do I need to make physical therapy appointments?

    • The frequency of your appointments will vary depending on your diagnosis. At the conclusion of your first evaluation, your therapist will let you know how often you will need to schedule appointments to keep on track with your plan of care.

  • What should I expect at my first appointment?

    • On your first visit to physical therapy, you will be assigned to a Physical Therapist and/or Physical Therapists Assistant who will work with you throughout your entire episode of care. Your completed paperwork will provide the therapists with details about your medical history and condition. A thorough evaluation will be conducted which may include diagnostic testing and range of motion measurements. It may also include some exercise and treatment with modalities (heat, ice, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, etc.) depending on the evaluation. By the conclusion of the visit, frequency and duration of visits will be established and you will be provided with any instructions for home care.

  • What should I wear to my appointment?

    • Comfortable clothing that you are free to move in. Sneakers are preferred in our facility.

  • What should I bring to my appointment?

    • Photo ID, insurance card(s), physician’s referral/prescription.

  • Do you have an interpreter available?

    • Yes, Major Changes Rehab Centre team members speak English, Spanish and Creole.

  • Do you accept insurance?

    • Yes, we accept all major medical insurance providers including Atlantic Medical Insurance, BahamaHealth, Colina, Generali Worldwide and National Insurance. We are also happy to assist you with finding out whether your insurance plan includes Physical Therapy coverage, just contact our offices and we will be happy to assist.

    • If your insurance does not cover Physical Therapy, requires a deductible, or includes a coinsurance payment, the full remaining balance will be due at the time of your appointment. Please contact us directly with questions.

    • If you do not have insurance or need to pay a copayment, coinsurance payment, or deductible, you can pay us directly by cash, check, or credit card. All fees are due at the time services are rendered.

Don't just take our word for it...

"The aquatic therapy has helped me most. The early beach morning routine was calming while the workout was invigorating. Besides that nothing beats our beautiful Bahamian waters anyway!"

- C. Glass

"I was really unable to walk after my stroke and didn't want to be bothered. My spirit was down and I was in a lot of pain. The MCRC family helped me build my confidence and was patient with me even when I didn't want to go on. There is no substitute for that because I've regained my independence and can walk again. Thanks Terrell & Major Changes Rehab."

- P. Smith

"The Major Changes Rehab family really make you feel at home. We talked and laughed until I forgot that I was working on strengthening my body. I believe that helped me to heal even faster. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming not cold like a Doctor's office or clinic."

- P. Strachan
